Welcome to The ConnectorIt is my answer to my community after several moments of curiosity about what I am looking at, exploring, and experimenting at the time. As your favorite walking encyclopedia and tastemaker, I am making sure you stay on the pulse of the latest—if you know, you know. Hi Reader, Welcome back to the Connector Series! This week, I have the New York Junior League’s Winter Ball. I am excited to get dressed up and dazzle the night away while raising money for our community partners! I am the Executive Vice Chair of the Winter Ball Committee. As one of the members working hard on this gala, I have to show up ready to sparkle. As the theme is An Evening in Wonderland based on Alice in Wonderland, I am focused on a whimsical but glowing look this year. In this week’s email, I am going to share with you my tips and places to get event-ready in New York City. You can also apply them to your hometown as well. 3 Months Before The EventThis is where you will set the scene of how you want your skin, hair, and outfit to look with options. I set up a gala event mood board to brainstorm and come up with ideas on how I want to dress based on the theme along with the etiquette of Black tie. I was thinking of silver tones, pearls, an updo, and eye-intense makeup in my mood board. I wanted to ensure that my skin stood out with the right body oil or shimmer based on what I was wearing. To prepare, I put myself on a skincare routine and facial care in preparation for the ball. I focused on skincare hydration with hydrating toners and essences like La Mer The Treatment Lotion while making sure my skin was even tone and glowing within with hyperpigmentation products like The Ordinary Niacinamide and Estée Lauder Advanced Night Repair. Plan Your CareAs this gala is in the new year, I had the double opportunity to use New Year specials and my beauty goals to my advantage. I set up a calendar to ensure I was getting a facial once a month three months before the Ball. For my three-month calendar of facials, I have done a hydration & massage facial, a hyperpigmentation-based facial, and a Clear & Brilliant Laser Facial. Each was chosen based on my skincare goals and progress. I chose their dates based on my cycle and the moon's cycle for proper healing according to my body and less risk with the moon astrology charts. I use an app, Read My Body, to track my cycle to do my facials during my ovulation phase, and the app, Dara, for the moon beauty calendar. Outside of beauty care, I have been investing in massages and acupuncture for health reasons. I go get my massages done bimonthly at Spencers Spa in Soho. These massages have helped me with my body pressure and posture over time. I take the time to go to get acupuncture at WTHN done for health and stress as well. I have pre-scheduled my visit before Winter Ball to get ear seeds to help me with stress during the pre-set up, night of, and after. These have been my go-to stress relief for events and any high-stress moments for years now. Beauty & Hair TestNever try something new the night of as someone who has been in the beauty industry for years. Makeup and hair tests are a staple for big nights and events. While I worked at Bumble and bumble, we did hair tests before any big shoots and fashion week events. I take the month before to plan out my makeup and play around with what I want to use for that night. I write down and take photos of what I did to later recreate for the event. This year, I am playing around with using Tom Ford Beauty’s Eye Quads and Stick Foundation. Last year, I used La Mer Foundation with Tom Ford Beauty Eye Quads and MAC Strobe Cream for body highlighter. Places to Go in New York
